I'll be the first to say, "I LOVE SUMMER". I really love it. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is enjoy chicken salad by the pool. I know that is super specific, but it's what I look forward to each summer!
This year I get to share my chicken salad with my son which makes me even more excited! So, in honor of my bubbling excitement, let's talk about expenses surrounding a "Pool Day" with a baby!
I'll include a checklist here with cost estimates of items I recommend. Keep reading for details on why I chose some of these items below.
Pool Day with a Baby:
Baby's Swimsuit $26
Baby's Swim Lessons $100
Baby's Sun Hat $15
Baby's Towel $10
Baby's Sandals $25
Sunscreen $12
Pool Bag $15
Pool Toys $14
Total $268
Shocked about how much goes into a "Pool Day" with a baby? Welcome to parenthood!
The heavy hitter here is the Swim Lesson, actually make that plural because there are a lot of them. Plain and simple, it is not cheap to teach your infant to swim. However, I believe it is essential. When our son turned one, we enrolled him in swim lessons, once a week. He currently attends Aqua-Tots and his lessons cost us just over $100 a month. It's not an easy expense to manage, but we have received a lot of help from our "village" and we put all of his birthday money towards his swim lessons, to lighten the financial load.
While nothing is better than frequent diaper changes, to ensure your baby is not contaminating the pool water with bodily fluids, most places require a dual swim-diaper system. This means your baby may be required to wear two Swim Diapers, one Disposable and one Reusable.
The Swimsuit, Sun Hat and Sunglasses are all necessary for a fun day at the pool! I'm a big fan of Rashguard Sets, SPF Proof Hats, and Flexible Sunglasses. If your little one is walking, don't forget Sandals, like these, to keep their tiny feet safe from the hot ground.
To sum things up, just under $300 is what it takes for us to have a pool day with our baby. It's not cheap (let's be honest, nothing is anymore), but it's so much fun! So, who is ready to meet me at the pool?
